Nate's Birthday

For Nate's birthday we took a mini vacation up to snowshoe ski resort.  We were able to stay at the hotel there for a great price thanks to our good friend Jason Riley.  Nate went snowboarding basically all day and had a great time.  He did allow me to use his pass for a few runs. It was bitterly cold. Micah later told his teachers, at school, that we went camping in the mountains and it was really cold. They boys played in our room and then we went swimming each day.  Here they are looking out the window, trying to find day.
The next week the flu hit our house.  Eli got it the worst.  Nate's actual birthday was spent trying to take care of him.  Around 10:00 we realized that he wasn't getting better.  His breathing was stating to become really labored.  We took him to the ER and they admitted him for RSV.
After some breathing treatments and some suction he started doing much better.  We went home the next day.  Because of all this, Nate didn't get much of a birthday.  I'm glad we were able to celebrate the week before.
Happy 32nd Birthday to the man of my dreams.

Frozen Sasquatch

On January 5th I ran the Frozen Sasquatch.  It is a 25k trail run through the Kanawaha State Forest.  It is basically a 15.8 mile hike where you run anything flat or downhill and there is no picnic in the middle to rest.
I ran it in 3:23:05.  I wanted to finish in under 3:30, but really wanted to run it in 3:10.  I realized that it was going to be really hard to pace myself.  The ups were so steep that I had to walk. The miles weren't marked, which was fine since we really were running through the mountains, but it contributed to not being able to pace myself. Trail running is very different than road running.  I ran a portion of the run with someone who used to live in my house in the late '90s, what are the odds??  I was so happy when I came around the final bend and I could see the finish line below.  Nate brought the boys to cheer me on.
This was a really hard run.  I don't think I'll ever do this again.  But then again, I said the same thing after my first marathon.....
